More Info on Colorado Sports Betting Laws
In November 2019, Colorado voters approved Proposition DD, which allowed legislators to enact sports betting legislation. Bill HP19-1327 was approved to authorize legal sports betting in the state of Colorado. The new law permitted persons or entities currently licensed to conduct limited gaming such as casino owners in Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek to be eligible to hold a “master license” to conduct sports betting. This entitles them to contract with a licensed “sports betting operator” or “internet sports betting operator.” Colorado collects a 10% tax on the net proceeds of sports betting to fund implementation of the state water plan and other public purposes. That 10% sports betting tax comes from the casinos and not their customers. Casinos already licensed in Black Hawk and other Colorado locations are allowed to offer mobile and online sports betting, which can be done anywhere within the state borders.
