While Black Hawk is a tiny town of fewer than 100 situated near Central City just west of Denver, it has a rich history and an exciting present. Also nearby is the Golden Gate Canyon State Park, which provides the opportunity for fishing, hiking, biking, backpacking, horseback riding and more. With 12,000 acres of land, this state park also has a vibrant history as home to many gold-finding expeditions back in the 1800’s. There are 12 hiking trails over 35 miles where you can identify wildflowers and other natural greenery. You’ll also see the remains of early settlement homesteads as you experience the breathtaking views of the alpine peaks. One of the best places to stop is Panorama Point Scenic Overlook with views for 100 miles.
