When people think of Colorado, they imagine incredible ski slopes and beautiful winter scenes in the mountains. While Colorado has a lot to offer for winter fun, it’s also a fabulous place to visit in the summer. Those same people who love the outdoors and all it has to offer in the cold weather should give it a try when it gets warm.
Visit the Wild Animal Sanctuary
Located in Keenesburg, which is just one hour from Denver, the Wild Animal Sanctuary is home to tigers, lions, grizzly bears and other exotic animals you may never get another chance to see in person. Spend time in the Mile into the Wild Walkway where you can watch the animals roam around in their habitat as you view them from above. Visit near sundown where you’ll have the opportunity to see more action.
Try Indoor Skydiving
iFLY Denver features a unique experience for the daredevil. Even if you’ve never gone skydiving before, you will have the opportunity to try it with this indoor skydiving site. It features a vertical wind tunnel to give you the feeling of flying. This exciting adventure is located in Lone Tree, not far from Denver.
An Unforgettable Theme Park
When you think of summer, you probably think of water parks and amusement parks with exciting rides. Colorado offers an exceptional experience with Elitch Gardens, which is the only downtown park in the country. Scream as you drop seven stories on the looping ride, Brain Drain, or the roller coaster with spins over 50 miles per hour in the Mind Eraser. Not only are there hair-raising rides for the adventurous, there is a kid area for the younger crowd as well as a Ferris wheel and other rides who prefer to keep it tame.
Visit the Zoo
Get up close and personal with your favorite wildlife in the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. You’ll see tigers, elephants, bears and the black rhino in close proximity and even feed the giraffes. There’s also a playground with a nature theme for the younger kids to enjoy as the adults take a break.
Enjoy a First-Class View
Zip over the Colorado Canyons with the Soaring Eagle Zip Line. Travel 1000 feet above the Arkansas River or down a mountain as you sit in a chair to take in the view. This zip line is accessible through either the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park or Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park.
Win Big
Spend an afternoon or even longer trying your luck at one of the many casinos in Black Hawk. Try out the slot machines or choose a game of strategy like Blackjack or Poker. When you’re ready for a break, you can try out one of the eateries which boast some amazing food. The casinos are a wonderful option after spending all day in the outdoors, and you just never know when you might win big. With numerous casinos and hotels in the same city, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from, or you can try them all as you experience the best of Colorado in the summer.
